Let me express my delight on behalf of Korea that we have the honor to host all of you the 27th International Association of Science Parks Daedeok Conference (IASP 2010 Daedeok).

Daedeok Innopolis is one of the most impressive innovation clusters in Asia possessing world-class capability in multiple fields. We find in Daedeok Innopolis an unparalleled concentration of talent and technology.

CDMA, the global standard for mobile communications, the D-RAM semiconductor, the Korean nuclear reactor and the Arirang Satellite are the results of the research carried out at Daedeok Innopolis. Such research is at the core of Korea’s economic development.

It is significant that IASP 2010 Daedeok will be held in Daejeon, the center of our research and development in science and technology that represents Korea’s new global role. I am convinced this meeting of great minds in science and technology will result in very fruitful conversations.

The entire world has been rocked by the combined impact of global warming and the financial crisis. We must address serious challenges in the environment, in energy and in the economy today. It was precisely because of the critical need to respond to these challenges; the environmental crisis, the energy crisis and the economic crisis, that we are organizing IASP 2010 Daedeok under the banner of “Global Green Growth G³.” Global Green Growth means economic growth built upon a positive response to environmental issues and a partnership for growth founded in global cooperation. Taking the global consensus that has emerged about the need for green growth, we can develop green technologies, commercialize them and create new industries based upon those technologies. The great value of this process is that it will develop our economy while at the same time protecting and improving the earth’s ecosystem. The Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Daedeok Innopolis are proud to co-host IASP 2010 Daedeok. This international conference will spark an invaluable discussion on the value green growth between experts from around the world. I am certain that this conference will be a great opportunity for us come to an understanding of how we can cooperate in the future.
