Kang Gye-doo, President of Daedeok Innopolis and distinguished diplomats attended the luncheon briefing at the Millennium Seoul Hilton Hotel

Kang Gye-doo, President of Daedeok Innopolis and the Minister of Knowledge Economy Choi Kyung-hwan invited the Peruvian ambassador, the commercial attaché to Spain and 47 other Embassy officials representing 40 countries. On February 22, 2010 at 11 am at the Millennium Seoul Hilton Hotel for the IASP 2010 Daedeok XXVII IASP World Conference on Science and Technology Parks. International Association of Science Parks (IASP) will amalgamate economic cooperation that will foster a brighter tomorrow for all countries.

President Kang informed and stimulated everyone about Daedeok Innopolis is one of the oldest science parks in Korea, and was founded in 1973. The original science park is evolving into a full-fledged cluster that is creating a new growth engine and be the driving force behind a new Korean economy. Daedeok Innopolis has revenue of KRW 30 trillion and rising, which will ensure it is one of the top 5 successful innovation clusters by 2015. The hub of science and technology Daedeok Innopolis is creating new business models to penetrate global markets by facilitating technology commercialization and public research institutes. Key examples of world-class technology are the national multipurpose nuclear reactor for research, HANARO and the first plasma generated from KSTAR (artificial sun). Innovation will ensure Daedeok Innopolis will become a center for green business by enhancing business collaboration and global green growth. Through collaboration among the embassies in Korea they will build a cooperative system. President Kang said, "IASP will contribute to the development for foreign countries. I hope for continuous interest and participation from foreign scientists and entrepreneurs to make IASP a great success."

C. Rajashekhar the Minister of Embassy of India discussed, "The collaboration between India and Republic of Korea will generate new ideas and open new frontiers of productive collaboration.” He went on to say, “With increased cooperation in the science and technology sector could be most mutually synergetic and mutually beneficial.” For example, S. Korea won a multi billion deal to build nuclear reactors in the United Arab Emirates in December of 2009. The innovation between Daedeok Innopolis and India will utilize the strengths of Daedeok Innopolis to promote practical cooperation with India in economy, science and technology. Plans to build a research center are already under way, and are being led by the India Study Association working group. Both countries will invest in construction of a research center based in Korea for the projects they plan to carry out together. He continued by expressing his hope for stronger collaboration between the two countries for this year.

Director Junseok Seo reminded everyone from May 23 to 26 the IASP is held at Daedeok Innoplois for world scientists, and entrepreneurs. This is an introductory meeting and exhibition for inquiries and discussions about IASP, which will encourage participation from Embassy officials, technologists, scientists and businesses. The IASP conference will bring together experts and business people from around the world to promote cooperation, which is part of Daedeok Innopolis' emerging role as a global innovator. For the first time, the IASP will focus on the environment. There will be many informative and elaborate discussions on what global green growth means and how it affects the world. IASP attaches great importance to advancing relations with foreign countries. Miscommunication, legal advice, technical advice and too much interference could be some potential problems. To solve these potential problems the Tech Biz Center will provide assistance for legal, technical and business issues for international companies. Thus, IASP will collaborate on issues related to the economy, environment and technology from which companies can benefit most directly. Moreover, IASP will collaborate on global green growth to foster trade volume and investment, exchange of people, culture, and technology.

Afterwards, Director Junseok Seo opened the floor to questions. An Embassy official asked about who benefits if I donate to Daedeok? Director Junseok Seo answered by saying that it will foster new jobs, for the local area. Plus, it will help individuals who are looking to start a business because Science and Technology Parks knows how to manage a start-up company very well. It is an investment for Korea, to share Koreans knowledge for those who need it such as Europe, Africa and other parts of Asia.

The conference ended the same way it started, on the punctilious ambitions for the future of local economic development for global green growth and increasing national competitiveness through science and technology parks. Also, reemphasizing the effort to strengthen economic cooperation. The Ambassador of Austria concluded the program by making a captivating toast, by saying; "This is for Daedeok and this will surely be a great event. Thus, thank you for the heart of technology in Korea."

After the presentations were finished, the Embassy officials adjourned to speak with each other to discuss about any concerns they might have with an appointed Deadeok representative at each table.
